The Great Big Book of Great Book Quotes is a social-sharing ebook designed to help authors and aspiring authors get noticed on the web. Any author in the world with published works—whether represented by a publishing company or self-published—may submit a quote. Authors of ebooks, short stories, and even poetry collections may submit as well, so long as the work has been published and is available to readers for free or for purchase. You can even provide a link to where your book is available.

Submitting is Easy and Free

To submit your quote, click on tab to the right, titled Submit Your Quote. You must submit your own work—you may not submit on behalf of another another (even if you think they have the best quote ever!). If you submit a quote, so long as it does not disparage another party and is not obscene, we will include it in the book. Turner Publishing does, however, reserve the right to omit your submission for any reason. In most cases, we will be happy to tell you why it was refused and permit you to submit a different quote.

A Social Sharing Project that Works

Each quote is designed to be shared as a meme on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest with a single click. We want to make it simple for readers to share your work and create interest in your writings. Social sharing is a great way to quickly spread the word about you and your book. You will help the project become more successful by sharing it on your own social pages and in social groups to which you are a member.

The Importance of Meta Data

Attached to your quote (in the programming of the page) we have included meta data about you and your book. This computer data provides the social networks with additional information and helps immensely in getting your quote noticed.

Share The Great Big Book of Great Book Quotes

The best way to help yourself is to share the link to the book on your social networks—you and all your fellow authors will benefit more and more and the link is shared. As we collect new quotes, The Great Big Book of Great Book Quotes ebook will be updated instead of a new file being created, so all links to the download will remain intact. Other than file-size limitation (we cut it off at about 100MB, give or take), there is no limit to the number of quotes we can add or the number of times the document can be updated.

In the world of online marketing and promotion, most efforts are designed to help a person, product, or service become recognized by search engines, such as Google, Amazon, YouTube, and Facebook. These efforts fall under the heading of search engine optimization.

Social Networks are Search Engines

You might believe YouTube and Facebook are social networks, not search engines, but because these online applications provide powerful search features, they are used millions of times a day to find content and thus, can be classified as search engines.

When a visitor to one of these sites uses the search feature to find content, the search engine looks at the text, images, and meta data within the site to determine which results to display. If, for instance, a visitor searches for the phrase suspense fantasy book, the search engine will search within, or in the case of Google, across the web, and try to determine which content best matches the search phrase—or is more relevant, in search-engine speak.

Interacting with Search Results

When you scan the list of search results returned, you click a link to visit the page. This interaction is being watched by the search engine and if you get to the page and then perform other actions—such as scroll the story, click a button, watch a video, or like or share—you are indicating to the search engine the match is a good fit (thus, more relevant). The more you interact with the content, the more you are affirming the relevancy, which affects the search-engine results for the next person who comes along and searches for the same phrase, and so on.

When You Bounce

If, however, you click a search result, get to the page, and then immediately click back to the results list, the search engine guesses the page was probably not relevant to you. The search engine records this as a bounce. Watching the actions of millions of searchers a day, search engines aggregate the data they collect about searchers’ actions and put together a rough understanding of each page’s content and its relevance to a particular search phrase—and which page(s) or site(s) provided the best content to engage visitors and which pages caused a bounce.

Validate Your Content

Having good, relevant content on your page or social network is not enough though. You need to make additional effort to validate your content and this can be achieved through the use of other websites or online content—such as The Great Big Book of Great Book Quotes.

To date, the current version has been viewed on SlideShare more than 10,000 times and downloaded from Spider Trainers’ website more than 25,000 times—not to mention the number of memes shared from the book to the various social networks. It was huge! REALLY HUGE!
